Isabel J. Peñafiel

Manager of Special Projects, Brilla Schools Network

Isabel J. González is the Manager of Special Projects for the Brilla Schools Network. Isabel identifies strongly with Brilla's mission, which is to promote the holistic development of the human person. Isabel previously worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., where she was an event coordinator and research assistant for the Project on Prosperity and Development. During her time at CSIS, Isabel expanded her knowledge of and understanding about worldwide development affairs. In particular, Isabel enjoyed learning about initiatives that spur private sector growth and help people rise out of poverty. Prior to joining CSIS, Isabel completed her coursework for her master’s degree in Integral Economic Development Policy at the Catholic University of America and is currently finishing her Applied Research Project. In addition, Isabel has a bachelor of science degree in psychology from the University of Texas at El Paso, which is located in her hometown of El Paso, Texas. Growing up on the border, it was obvious to Isabel that there were major disparities between El Paso and her sister city of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. In her attempt to understand what lead to economic disparities and what factors contributed to having a good quality of life, Isabel pursued a career in economic development. In her leisure time, Isabel enjoys soaking in the beauty of her surroundings, drinking a good cup of tea, and listening to an insightful audiobook.
